I felt a profound joy since early morning as I knew that today was another miracle. Today was another gift offering itself up for the creation of more magical life moments. Why, you might ask? I knew since I woke up this morning that I would soon be spending precious time with a group of nine children at a Montessori School here in Cincinnati doing yoga, singing and dancing new possibilities of mindfulness, wellbeing and creativity into existence. My heart was preparing me once again for that time of celebrating something brand new with these children of ages 4-9. Seeing them as brilliant co-creators of this yoga class experience, I was thrilled to show up after school was over, prepare the space and greet them with wonder.
When they came through the door, we all placed our yoga mats in a beautiful circle, each mat looking like a flower petal to allow for a feeling of open communication and trust. Some of the children were excited to show me what yoga poses they have been practicing at home this past week. We sang our yoga wake up song and then two of children requested to share a couple of stories they thought would go along with some yoga moves we have been practicing. As I was listening to their creative energy moving through spaces around me, I smiled with delight and thanked everyone for showing up again, fully present in their joyful selves. We sang several more powerful songs accompanied by movements to enhance self-confidence and self-love and then we got ready to explore a new yoga story for the week, a balloon adventure. As I was leading this imaginary journey inside a tree, I witnessed a new awareness of the greater work at hand. I was shown right then and there that when I am investing time and love in the children’s mindfulness, wellbeing and creativity, my true ROI (return on investment) translates as RADIANCE-ONENESS-INSPIRATION.
RADIANCE… We call this class radiant child yoga for a very good reason. All these children who have signed up for my after school yoga classes are so ready and willing to share their radiance with all of us that we don’t take too much time for thinking about it, we simply step into it when we get together. This radiance is like a magical field of energy we all partake of and even parents feel it as they come in at the end of class.
ONENESS… It is evident that we all share a feeling of deep connection to ourselves, to each other and the world around us as we move our bodies along with story elements which have been infused with yogic elements of wisdom, playfulness and balance. My passion to work mostly from a place of the heart has spilled over into a greater sense of compassion and true love.
INSPIRATION…There is absolutely no limit to what these kids can teach me to continue to inspire me to be there for them. I am witnessing their creativity blossom in each breath and the way they can build new ideas using each other’s thoughts and feelings in the moment entrances me. I walk away after one hour and a half of radiant child yoga with great inspiration knowing exactly what yoga story will emerge next and why.
As you can see, there is indeed a call for us as adults to start investing more time and love in the children’s mindfulness, wellbeing and creativity. They are the future leaders of a new conscious world emerging in each moment before our eyes. What tools can we share with them? What new ideas will they give us to facilitate these empowering experiences? It all begins with being there for them, listening and then our ROI (return on investment) will surely translate as RADIANCE-ONENESS-INSPIRATION.
